With all the information in the world today, why is it so hard to make a decision? Decision fatigue. With all the information in the world, why is it so hard to stick to what we set out? Garbage information online.
There’s TOO MUCH information out there. Too many people claiming this diet works, or if you meditate it will solve your problems, or that coconut oil is the answer to every question. But there are a few core ideas that cannot be mistaken. These 3 habits are, and always have been, efficient in making you a better person.
1. Discipline with your mornings:
Most people wake up blazing guns because they overslept and didn’t prepare for the next morning. They don’t give themselves enough time in the mornings to be themselves before they start being a mom, an employee, a CEO, etc. Don’t get me wrong, sleep is priceless. But we need to give ourselves a little extra time in the morning to start in a fresh and calming manner. My morning routine (most of the time) looks like this:
- Wake @ 4:30am
- Bible Study/Prayer with a cup of coffee @ 4:45 – 5:15am
- Workout @ 5:30am
- Back home/shower @ 6:15 – 6:30am
- Kiddo wakes @ 6:30am
- Kiddos Breakfast/Pack Lunches/Vitamins @ 6:45 – 7:00am
- Kiddo clean up/Brush Hair/Brush Teeth @ 7:00 – 7:10am
- Kiddo on bus to school @ 7:15am
- Finish getting myself ready @ 7:15 – 7:40am
- Pack my breakfast/lunch/snack @ 7:40 – 7:50am
- Arrive to work @ 8am
Now if you go back and look at this long list, you’ll see that just a fraction was used to wake early and fill my cup. Because in order to pour into other’s cups, mine has to at least have something in it!
Get your butt out of bed in the mornings. Talk to Jesus. Move your body.
2. Discipline with your goal:
Whatever part of the journey you’re on, most people are striving towards something. Whether it be health, wealth, career, or personal, we were built to Run The Race:
Hebrews 12:1-3
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Sit down and work your goal backwards. How do you eat and elephant? One bite a time. There needs to be a better saying for that because who in the heck is eating elephants? Not this vegan. Working your goal backwards helps set realistic baby steps in order to achieve what you’ve set out for. What behaviors do you need to set into play in order to get to your goal? I feel like for years I always had self doubt to actually follow through with what I set out to do because I was a perfectionist. Now, I understand that a few set backs are a part of the process and the journey isn’t supposed to be perfect. YOU ARE JUST SUPPOSED TO TRY – YOUR VERY BEST!
3. Discipline in your surroundings:
Friends, food, relationships, TV, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, coworkers, literally anything you see, hear, smell, taste, or speak absorbs back into your body. You are what you DO/EAT/THINK/FEEL. It’s hard to NOT let the things around you effect you, honestly it’s probably downright impossible. So we have to acknowledge this, and be intentional about what we fill ourselves with.
You aren’t satisfied with your job, but understand that you need to pay bills. That you have to do what you have to do, in order to later be able to do what you want to do. (This is especially true with kids)
You aren’t satisfied with your body, but understand that your breakthrough will be mental and you have to start somewhere.
You aren’t satisfied with your finances, but you understand that in order to change that, you have to change how you live/spend/save.
With every problem, there is a solution. God gave us life as a gift. It’s not something that’s constantly miserable and just this up in the air type of living. He didn’t say Run the Race and WIN, He just said RUN THE RACE. The prize is Heaven, guys. HEAVEN!! God gave us steps to live an abundant, healthy, happy, fulfilling life. The Bible isn’t a set of rules to follow, it’s to help guide you through life with the best outcome here on earth.
Life is too short to just slide by. Be bold. Be present. Be faithful. Be kind. Do what God has called you to do.
Love,
B
