Tips & Tricks I learned when I first went Vegan:

I figured it would be nice to compile a basic list of things I learned when I first went Vegan. Like the fact that Oreo’s are vegan, but some chewing gum is not? Weird, right…like why would they put milk in gum? Don’t even get me started.

I figured the easiest way to get this out is just to bullet point a bunch of random statements in no particular order. Happy reading.

  • Oreo’s are vegan. I didn’t say healthy, I said vegan
  • Most sourdough breads are vegan
  • Trader Joe’s hummus with the blue lid is the bomb.com
  • Pair TJ Hummus with their Pita Crackers and LORT
  • There’s usually a vegan “section” in near the Egg/Dairy (ironic)
  • There’s also usually a vegan freezer section
  • Gardein vegan frozen chick’n strips are great for kiddos
  • LightLife beefless crumbles with some good old taco seasoning tastes exactly like taco beef
  • CHAO cheese slices by Field Roast are the most decent/convenient cheese to buy at your local grocery but if you can find specialty shops that sell homemade vegan cheeses, definitely do that.
  • I’m going to say it… Daiya is not good. The ONLY thing I can attest to is their boxed Mac n Cheese if fire, but everything else is garbage in my opinion
  • JUST BECAUSE IS SAYS DAIRY FREE OR LACTOSE FREE DOES NOT MEAN IT’S VEGAN. These butt heads will still add “milk fat” or “milk derivatives” into stuff. It’s ridiculous
  • Go Veggie cheese slices that look like the old school Kraft Singles ARE NOT VEGAN – tricky marketing
  • On the flip side, Go Veggie listened to the complaints and made them Vegan. Whoohoo! They also have a Vegan Strawberry Cream Cheese that ERK loves.
  • ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENTS. Even if you don’t find a non-vegan ingredient, sometimes it will defer you from buying it strictly because there’s a bunch of words you cannot pronounce
  • LightLife Smart Dogs are delish and easy! Paired with some baked beans (watch out for the added meat ones, get vegetarian ones) and potato chips, it’s great for cook outs.
  • Ball Park buns are vegan
  • Peanut butter & Jellies have come in clutch
  • Soy is just edamame beans y’all
  • Only the original Pringles are vegan, all the rest have milk…again. Why?

More to come as I learn.

Thanks for reading!

Love,

B
