Life is Hard. Especially Parenting.

Yo.

This is a post about how life is hard. For everyone. But I’ll be specifically hitting on “Life as a Parent.”

People say having kids is hard, but in the aspect of money, time, and obligations. Like…in a negative sense that this child is taking something from you. (Which we all find out is completely wrong)

But no one ever talks about the part where you feel helpless when your child is going through something traumatic. Or how hard it is when your child doesn’t make the team and you can feel the disappointment in your bones. Or when you forget their water bottle with their lunch box and you feel so bad even though you know they already have water at school.

The hard parts about loving them so much that it pains you when you mess up, forget, or just downright make an butt of yourself.

I don’t know how parents do it without knowing that Jesus has it all handled. That we are forgiven for our parenting fails, uplifted to get out of the exhaustion, and equipped perfectly to be their provider. It’s crazy that God made us just for them and vice verse.

I heard a quote at church this Sunday that said:

“Grace isn’t a license to do the wrong thing, it’s the will to do the right thing.”

So many of us get a baby sitter too often, are on our phones too much, or cuss in front of our kids and the enemy makes us believe we are bad parents. Didn’t you just believe that last statement? You second guessed each example of a “bad parent” and partially put yourself in that box.

STOP!

You are a good parent. You can become a better parent. It is a journey. You keep taking that baby to church, feeding it healthy food, attending all the events, picking up the broken pieces, and wiping the tears away. You’re doing a great job and you don’t need the approval of others.

Love,

B
